SMC Molds

Prepare an SMC mold inquiry with part drawings, tooling responsibilities and a clear approval sequence.

Start with the part definition

SMC molds form part of TONA's listed range. An inquiry should begin with the component drawing and its revision status. Show the features that determine the intended part geometry and identify unresolved design areas. If the request starts from an existing sample, explain whether that sample is a reference for appearance, dimensions or an existing tool. These are different starting points for a tooling discussion.

Describe the tooling scope

State whether the inquiry concerns a new mold, an existing tool discussion or tooling associated with a proposed molding project. Clarify which design work you expect to be included in the offer. Ask how the tooling scope will be documented before approval. A quotation described only as a mold can hide differences in the work included and in the information the buyer must provide.

Coordinate the process interface

Provide the equipment and process interface information requested by your technical reviewer. Ask how the proposed tooling arrangement will be compared with that information. Identify the party responsible for checking compatibility and approving the relevant drawings. Keep this review separate from approval of the molded part appearance; agreement on the shape of a component does not settle every interface required for the tool itself.

Define the review records

List the drawings, sample records and inspection information you want to review during tooling evaluation. Explain which part features require particular attention and who has authority to accept them. Ask how proposed changes will be recorded after a review. A written revision trail helps distinguish an accepted modification from a suggestion discussed during development but never carried into the agreed tool design.

Clarify ownership and later use

Before ordering, ask how tooling ownership, identification, storage and future use will be addressed in the agreement. Identify any drawings or records that must accompany the project handover. These are questions to settle for the individual order rather than assumptions attached to the product category. Present tooling and component quantities separately when the inquiry includes both a mold and molded parts.
